Nuclear conflict between the US and Iran
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has stated that his country's Space Force is closely monitoring the situation of enriched uranium in Iran. According to Trump, this material is buried under rubble after the US bombings of 2025. In a threatening tone, he warned the Iranian authorities that any attempt to extract it could result in a forceful military response.
Trump is referring to approximately 400 kilos of uranium enriched to 60%, which, according to the official US version, were trapped under tons of debris after a series of attacks on the Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities. These bombings, which took place last summer, were part of an escalation of tensions between both countries.
The situation is further complicated by the position of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Its director, Rafael Mariano Grossi, has indicated that the agency has reason to believe that Iran has not begun any operation to recover the uranium buried in Isfahan, which represents about half of the total amount. However, the lack of access by inspectors to Iranian nuclear facilities has meant that the available information is merely speculative.
During a recent interview on the television show “Full Measure,” Trump reaffirmed his confidence that the United States will be able to recover the uranium at some point. "We have it under surveillance. I made something called the Space Force that is watching it. If anyone gets close to the place, everything will blow up," the president declared, making it clear that the situation remains tense.
A fragile ceasefire
In this context, Iran and the United States are in a delicate ceasefire, after the outbreak of their latest conflict at the end of February. This ceasefire comes less than a year after the intense bombing campaign that took place the previous summer. The peace negotiations currently taking place have as a priority the Iranian nuclear program, especially enriched uranium that could be used to manufacture nuclear weapons.
Iran has maintained for years that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and that it is within its legitimate right to develop this technology. However, the international community continues to watch the progress of its program with concern, especially in a context where enriched uranium has become a critical point of dispute.
La tensión entre ambos países no solo afecta a la política internationally, but also has an impact on the daily lives of citizens. The rumble in the streets is felt, with the population concerned about the possible repercussions of an armed conflict. The uncertainty about the future of the nuclear agreement and the possibility of a new military confrontation generate concern among ordinary people.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have maintained their position that the development of their nuclear program is a sovereign right. However, international pressure and threats from the United States further complicate the situation. The lack of effective dialogue between both nations has led to a stalemate in negotiations, leaving the international community in a constant state of alert.
The situation remains in a precarious balance, where any false move could trigger a new escalation of violence. The United States' continued monitoring of enriched uranium in Iran is a reminder that the conflict is not over, and that tensions remain simmering.
In this scenario, the international community hopes that peace negotiations can advance and that an agreement is reached that guarantees security in the region. However, mistrust between both countries remains a significant obstacle.
The situation with enriched uranium in Iran is an issue that will continue to make headlines and generate concern internationally. The lack of transparency and limited access to Iranian nuclear facilities further complicates the picture. The international community watches closely, aware that any decision can have global repercussions.
“If anyone gets close to the place, everything will blow up,” Trump warned, making it clear that tension between the United States and Iran continues to be a hot topic on the international agenda.
