Death of official in Yemen generates shock and international condemnation
The Ministry of the Interior of the Government of Yemen has confirmed the death of Wisam Qaid, director of the Social Fund for Development, after being kidnapped in Aden, the country's provisional capital. His body was found in the Inma neighborhood, hours after his disappearance, which has unleashed a wave of indignation and concern both locally and internationally.
Aden security forces have launched field operations and investigations after the discovery of the body. In a statement, the Interior Ministry said Qaid had been kidnapped by unidentified armed men. Specialized security and scientific police teams have moved to the scene to establish a security cordon and begin collecting evidence.
The authorities have called on citizens to collaborate with information that can help clarify the case. “It is essential that the population gets involved in the search for the truth and in the arrest of those responsible,” the Ministry stated. Major General Mutahar Ali Naji, Aden's security director, has emphasized the continuity of the investigations and the need to apply all measures to capture those involved.
Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohsen al Zindani has described Qaid's death as a “blatant attack” on state institutions and humanitarian efforts. Al Zindani has promised that this crime will not go unpunished and has urged security agencies to act quickly to locate the culprits. “It is essential to clarify the circumstances of this murder and keep citizens informed about the progress of the investigation,” he added.
International reactions to the murder
The murder of Wisam Qaid has generated strong international condemnation. Representatives of the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and France have expressed their rejection of this violent event. The US Embassy in Yemen has demanded a thorough investigation so that those responsible face the consequences of their actions. “Aden must be a safe place for officials and citizens to carry out their daily activities,” they stated from the legation.
Patrick Simonnet, EU ambassador to Yemen, was “shocked” by the crime and highlighted Qaid's commitment to his country. “Those responsible must be brought to justice,” he emphasized. Along the same lines, the ambassador of the United Kingdom, Abda Sharif, expressed her indignation and highlighted Qaid's work for the benefit of millions of Yemenis. “It is crucial that the culprits be identified and brought to justice as soon as possible,” he said.
Catherine Corm-Kammoun, French ambassador, also strongly condemned the murder and reiterated her country's support for the efforts of the Yemeni authorities to ensure security and stability in the region. The international community is closely watching the development of events, while the local population feels increasingly insecure in the face of increasing violence.
The Social Fund for Development, led by Qaid, is a key body in coordinating development and poverty reduction programs in Yemen. His death represents a significant blow to humanitarian efforts in a country already facing a serious humanitarian and economic crisis.
Yemeni authorities have promised to keep the public informed about progress in the investigation. However, the climate of insecurity and lack of trust in institutions generate an environment of uncertainty among citizens. The situation in Aden and the rest of the country remains tense, and the international community continues to press to ensure the safety of officials and the general population.
The assassination of Wisam Qaid is a reminder of the challenges Yemen faces on its path to stability and peace. Violence and impunity continue to be persistent problems affecting Yemeni society, while the international community watches with concern the outcome of this tragic event.
