MADRID, 20 (EUROPA PRESS)
Spanish large retailers have reduced food waste from 1.78% in 2014 to 0.47% in 2024 of the total marketed, which means that 98.91% of the food on sale was marketed last year, according to data from the Association of Manufacturers and Distributors (Aecoc).
The director of Communication and Institutional Relations of Aecoc, Nuria de Pedraza, has highlighted that thanks to the sustained effort over these years, the participating large distribution companies have managed to reduce their waste rate from 1.78% to 0.47% of the total marketed.
The 'Food Waste Barometer', prepared by Aecoc and Phenix, also reflects that seven out of ten consumers support discounts on products close to expiry, while 59% value vacuum packaging of cut products and 48%, the organization of shelves according to family size.
Likewise, in the hospitality industry, 67% of those surveyed appreciate being able to take away leftover food, 61% support last-minute menus at reduced prices and 44% value the option of choosing menus adapted to the desired quantity.
