Liga MX: A Tournament on the Rise with Goals and Growing Audience
Liga MX is in the midst of a season that stands out for its impressive offensive production. Until matchday 14 of the regular phase, the average of goals amounts to 3.07 per game, a figure notably higher than that of previous seasons, which has captured the attention of fans in both Mexico and the United States.
Mikel Arriola, commissioner of the Mexican Football Federation, has indicated that this boom in the number of goals is a key factor for the growing interest of the public. Furthermore, this increase in Scoring effectiveness translates into a notable increase in rating television, registering a growth of 13 percentage points compared to the previous year in both markets, showing the growing popularity of the tournament.
Goals that attract fans
Arriola highlighted that “the most important thing is that we are above three goals on average per game,” highlighting the exciting context of the current tournament. Soccer is a pillar of entertainment for the Mexican population, and this league has managed to consolidate its presence in the United States market, where, according to data from Televisa Univisión, the Liga MX is the most watched soccer competition, even surpassing the Premier League.
Investment in future and youth development
The increase in visibility of Liga MX has also generated greater interest from sponsors, who support both the tournament and the Mexican National Team. Arriola mentioned that the income generated by the team, through ticket sales, broadcast rights and sponsorships, is reinvested in minor categories and in the First Women's Division. “Football is the industry that reinvests the most in the country's economy,” he stated.
A crucial aspect in talent development is the continuity of the minor rule in Liga MX. This regulation has allowed U-20 players to accumulate more minutes in the First Division, contributing significantly to their training. For example, the footballers of the U-20 National Team have added a total of 27 thousand minutes in the league, a considerable jump regarding the 6 thousand minutes that they previously achieved. “19 of the 22 players had already made their debut,” Arriola highlighted.
Promising future
The commissioner concluded that it is essential to strengthen the regulations that promote the participation of young talents in Mexican soccer, thus ensuring a constant flow of soccer players capable of competing at the international level. With an exciting tournament and a growing audience, Liga MX is positioning itself as one of the most relevant competitions on the continent.
