The Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araqchi, has arrived in Islamabad in the last few hours, where he has been received by his Pakistani counterpart, Ishaq Dar, along with the head of the Army, Asim Munir. This meeting takes place in a context of intense talks between the United States and Iran, with the aim of ending the conflict that began at the end of February, after the joint offensive by Israel and the United States against Tehran.
Details of Araqchi's arrival
An Iranian delegation led by Araqchi has landed in the Pakistani capital, where it was also received by the Minister of the Interior, Moshin Naqvi. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Araqchi plans to discuss "the ongoing efforts for peace and ending the war imposed against Iran" with senior Pakistani officials.
Conversation expectations
Ishaq Dar expressed his satisfaction at receiving Araqchi, whom he referred to as his “brother” in a short message on social media. The Pakistani minister expressed his hope that these talks will be fruitful and contribute to peace and stability in the region.
America's response
In a recent update, the White House confirmed that US special envoy Steve Witkoff, along with adviser Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, will travel to Islamabad this Saturday. Its objective is to establish "direct talks" to reach an agreement with Tehran, although so far, the Iranian government has not confirmed a meeting.
Context of the conflict and negotiations
This week, the US president announced an extension of the truce agreed on April 8, without specifying a deadline for resuming attacks in the absence of an agreement. Tehran, for its part, has conditioned any pact on the lifting of the blockade imposed by Washington on its ports. The situation remains tense, and negotiations are at the center of international attention.
