MADRID, 19 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz arrives at the start of the United States Open, the last 'Grand Slam' of the season that is played on a hard surface between August 24 and September 7, after winning the Cincinnati Masters 1,000, which has allowed him to be in a good position to recover the number one in the world ranking and add three tournaments of this category in the same course for the first time in his career.

Carlos Alcaraz returned in the best possible way after the brief rest he took after losing in the Wimbledon final against Jannik Sinner. He has done it with his third Masters 1,000 of the season in Cincinnati, a tournament in which he had to overcome, in addition to the number one in the world, the number three, the German Alexander Zverev. All this going from less to more in his game and recovering the freshness that has allowed him to be the best tennis player of 2025 so far.

And Alcaraz's course is being the best of his career so far. The Cincinnati title means that for the first time it has reached three Masters 1,000 in the same year. In addition, the Murcian has lifted six trophies in 2025 – Roland Garros, Monte Carlo, Rome, Cincinnati, Rotterdam and Queens –, equaling the best record since he became a professional in a calendar year (2023), all with three months left in the competition, and achieving success on all surfaces (dirt, grass, outdoor hard court and indoor court).

An outstanding course in which we are seeing Carlos Alcaraz more mature and, above all, more regular. Since 2025 started, the tennis player from El Palmar has participated in 12 tournaments and the Miami Masters 1000, where he fell in the second round, is the only one in which he has not made it among the best eight. In fact, they have already played eight finals, the same as in 2023, their record in a campaign.

Regularity that also means that the Murcian's winning percentage this campaign is the highest of his career at 90 percent. In fact, he has already surpassed 50 wins at this point, something he has been doing since 2022, being the first to do so since Novak Djokovic between 2013 and 2016. Furthermore, the number of 54 matches won with which the US Open will start is the same as what he achieved last year (54-6).

Now, Alcaraz has several challenges ahead of him between now and the end of the year. The first, lifting his second US Open, which would allow him to add two 'Grand Slam' titles for the second consecutive year, in addition to practically ensuring finishing as number one in the world for the year, something he only achieved in 2022, precisely the year in which he won his only title in the 'big' New York.

Added to these is the possibility of improving his best record of victories at the end of the year, so far set at 65 wins in 2023. To achieve this he must add 12 more victories, a more than attainable goal taking into account the number of tournaments that remain in the course, including, in addition to the US Open, two Masters 1000, the Davis Cup or the ATP Finals, for which he is already qualified and has never won or played in the final.

Finally, the Murcian will also have the possibility of debuting as champion in two Masters 1,000 category tournaments – Shanghai and Paris. A challenge that, if achieved, would place him on a list alongside Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal, Björn Borg, John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl, who are the only ones who have won at least four tournaments in this category in the same year.
