Marcelo Abdala will begin leading the PIT-CNT after the victory of his list. Congress approved a new action plan and the union leadership is restructured.
The communist union current prevailed in the internal elections of the PIT-CNT and defined the continuity of Marcelo Abdala in front of the Executive Secretariat . The result was known at the close of the XV Congress of Trade Unions, where four lists participated that reflected new alliances and internal tensions in the union movement.
The list 1 “The unitary” , made up of leaders from sectors such as metallurgical, construction, private health, telecommunications, dairy industry and education, obtained 473 votes , positioning itself as the most voted. This ensures 17 charges in the Representative Table , which was reduced from 48 to 41 members.
In second place was the 41-98 list, an alliance between “En Lucha” (COFE) and “Articulation” (FUECYS, FUM, AEBU), with 418 votes and 15 charges . In third place, list 2 “Coordination” achieved 136 votes , which translates into 5 charges , and finally list 8 “For dignity” reached 127 votes , with 4 charges assigned.
The new Representative Board will be in charge of defining whether the PIT-CNT maintains the current scheme of presidency, vice-presidency and general secretary, or if it opts for a model of coordinators . This discussion will be one of the first points to be addressed in the installation stage of the new pipeline.
During the congress, a union action plan focused on mobilizations that aim to recover purchasing power in wage agreements. Furthermore, it was agreed to demand a reduction in retirement age , he increase in lower pensions and the elimination of profit in the pension system, especially through the commissions of the AFAP .
The PIT-CNT is thus preparing for a new stage of struggles and political definitions in a key year, where the role of the union movement will once again intersect with the country's economic and social agenda.
