The Russian Foreign Ministry has suggested this Saturday that Western security agencies could have had some degree of involvement in the preparation of the armed groups responsible for the multi-front offensive against the Malian military forces in several barracks in the capital, Bamako, and other parts of the country, while recommending its citizens avoid traveling to this African country.
The Russian diplomatic department has indicated - in a statement reported by the Russian Tass news agency - that Malian forces continue to deploy operations to neutralize those responsible for the attacks.
In this context, he noted that "efforts are currently being made to eliminate the gangs, in the preparation of which, according to preliminary information, Western security agencies could have been involved."
Moscow has reacted in this way after the incidents recorded this Saturday, when explosions and shootings occurred at the Kati military base, on the outskirts of Bamako, considered the largest military installation in the country and which houses residences of senior leaders, including the transitional president, Assimi Goita. At the moment, the circumstances of the attack have not been clarified.
Likewise, the Ministry has confirmed that it has no evidence of Russian citizens affected in the context of these events, although it has expressed its concern about the deterioration of security in the country. Consequently, it has urged its nationals to exercise extreme caution.
"The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Russian citizens refrain from traveling to this country and that those who are already there take the necessary measures to guarantee their personal safety," he stressed.
For its part, the Russian Embassy in Mali has firmly condemned – in a web statement – the attacks, which it has described as acts aimed at destabilizing the country. "Strongly condemns the cowardly attacks perpetrated on April 25, 2026 by armed terrorist groups in various parts of the country," the diplomatic legation stated in its letter.
Along the same lines, he has highlighted the response of the Malian forces, ensuring that "thanks to the decisive and coordinated action of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Mali, the attacks were repelled", and has conveyed his support to the Government and the population of the African country.
The Embassy has also expressed its condolences to the victims and their loved ones: "We offer our most sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims. We share your pain in these difficult times," while reiterating its support for Mali in its efforts to guarantee stability and move towards development.
This attack represents a true test of fire for both the Malian military junta and its great security ally, Russia.
The Tuareg separatist group of the Liberation Front for Azawad (FLA) has already claimed responsibility for these attacks with an exceptional ally, the jihadist organization of the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), linked to Al Qaeda, with which it has supposedly maintained contacts in recent months to coordinate an offensive, Radio France Internationale sources reported at the time.
The Army has confirmed a "large-scale tracking operation" in Bamako and other parts of the country, although it has emphasized that "a vigorous response has allowed us to defeat the enemy and neutralize several hundred terrorists," he stressed before explaining that the attackers "were overwhelmed by the firepower of our forces."
