Yellow weather warning for storms and hail in Uruguay

The Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology issued a yellow weather warning for occasionally strong storms and abundant rains affecting several areas of the country.

Phenomenon and scope

The alert, in force since early Monday morning, responds to the presence of a humid and unstable air mass that favors the development of storms. In affected areas, intense electrical activity, copious rainfall in short periods, occasional hail and strong gusts of wind are expected.

Departments and localities under warning

The warning covers the entire department of Artigas, the town of Chapicuy in Paysandú and several areas of Salto, including Albisu, Arapey, Belén, Constitución, Arapey Hot Springs and Termas del Daymán, among others.

Expected evolution

According to the agency, temporary improvements could be recorded during the validity of the warning. The situation remains under constant monitoring and any relevant changes will be reported.
