The Chinese authorities have urged the United States to put an end to the “unfounded” actions – interrogations, harassment and unjustified repatriations – of their Government against Chinese students arriving in the North American country and have warned that they will take appropriate measures to defend the interests of their compatriots.
This was reported this Friday by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Mao Ning, who has asked the US Executive "to face the problem fairly, take China's concerns seriously, act in accordance with the president's (Donald Trump) statement to welcome Chinese students and end the unfounded interrogations, harassment and repatriation against them."
Mao has pointed out that this discriminatory attitude even includes the revocation of visas for some students who are prohibited from entering the country on the grounds that "they could endanger national security," according to statements by the spokesperson reported by the Xinhua news agency.
“The United States has frequently carried out discriminatory, politically motivated and selective police actions against Chinese students arriving (to the country),” the spokesperson insisted before denouncing that “US actions seriously violate the legal and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens, impede the flow of people between the two countries and harm exchanges between (both) peoples.”
Thus, Mao has indicated that the Chinese Government has intervened in each of the cases reported to date and has asserted that Beijing will continue to take the necessary measures to "protect the legitimate rights and interests of its citizens."
These statements continue a confrontation that dates back months and is connected to the crusade initiated by Trump against some of the most prestigious universities in the United States.
At the end of May, the US State Department made public its intention to “strongly revoke the visas of students” of Chinese nationality, just a week after the authorities in Beijing condemned the “politicization” of education by Washington, which had recently prohibited Harvard University from admitting foreign students during the 2025-2026 academic year, following the pro-Palestinian protests registered on its campus against Israel's offensive on the Gaza Strip.
