MADRID, 18 (EUROPA PRESS)
The Russian Government has again rejected this Monday a possible deployment of troops from NATO countries in Ukraine, after the so-called Coalition of the Volunteers, conceived to support kyiv militarily, "revived the idea" of deploying a military contingent in the event of a ceasefire agreement.
"We reaffirm our position of categorical rejection of any scenario that contemplates the appearance in Ukraine of a military contingent with the participation of NATO countries, which entails an uncontrolled escalation of the conflict with unpredictable consequences. The statements in this regard by some European countries, including the United Kingdom, essentially reflect their openly provocative and predatory aspirations," said the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajarova.
Through a statement published by the diplomatic portfolio on its website, Zajarova has criticized that the coalition of volunteers, led by the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, and the French President, Emmanuel Macron, spoke in this regard this weekend, while the United Kingdom Defense Minister, John Healey, "directly declared the willingness to send troops to Ukraine."
“In the context of the genuine desire demonstrated by the leadership of Russia and the United States in Anchorage (Alaska) for a comprehensive, fair and sustainable solution to the conflict over Ukraine, including, among other things, the eradication of its root causes, statements continue to come out of London that not only disagree with the efforts of Moscow and Washington, but are also clearly aimed at undermining them,” he said.
In this sense, he has maintained that "the role of the British in fomenting the conflict in Ukraine is well known", underlining that London "has not hidden that it considered this country exclusively as a geopolitical instrument against Russia." “London is obsessed with the desire to constantly raise the stakes in the conflict and is leading NATO partners into a dangerous abyss, beyond which a new global conflict is not far away,” he said.
"These bellicose diatribes, which are actually a cynical incitement to continue the fight, only confirm that London is not interested in resolving the situation, but is doing everything possible to prolong the bloodshed. With their policy, the British simply do not give kyiv the opportunity to negotiate a way out of the conflict and, out of habit, with arrogance and self-confidence, prolong the suffering of the Ukrainian people," he said.
Finally, he considered that "it is unlikely" that the British authorities "are capable of understanding the full responsibility that they arbitrarily assume, as well as the potentially catastrophic consequences of the destructive policy they have adopted for international and regional security", which is why he has asked that they "abandon risky and reckless geopolitical tactics."
