Student from the University of Los Andes dies after brutal attack during Halloween in Bogotá
On the night of October 31, 2025, died Jaime Esteban Moreno Jaramillo, a 20 year old student of the University of Los Andes, victim of a brutal aggression occurred during the celebrations of halloween in Bogota.
The District Health Secretariat confirmed that the young man entered the Chapinero Hospital with a severe head trauma. He was later transferred to Simón Bolívar Hospital, where he remained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until his death.
“During his stay in the ICU he suffered cardiorespiratory arrest and, despite resuscitation maneuvers, his death was declared,” the entity detailed in an official statement.
Police report: three people were captured
He Lieutenant Colonel Jorge Ariza, of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, reported that Moreno was found lying on public roads with multiple injuries on the body, in the vicinity of the 64th street.
Thanks to the testimony of a witness, he was identified three people allegedly involved in aggression: two foreign women and a Colombian man, who were captured and placed at the disposal of the authorities for the crime of personal injury, which later led to homicide.
"There is a witness in that place, who informs us of the alleged action of three people. The attention area manages to capture them," explained Ariza.
The National Police and the Technical Research Body (CTI) advance in the investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the attack.
A case that revives memories of the crime of Luis Andrés Colmenares
The death of Jaime Esteban Moreno has caused great commotion in the university community and in public opinion, for its similarity with the case of Luis Andrés Colmenares, another student of the University of Los Andes, died under confusing circumstances during a Halloween party in 2010.
Both cases occurred on similar dates and contexts, in the middle of university celebrations and with contradictory versions of the initial events.
The Colmenares case set a precedent in Colombian justice, with years of judicial processes, controversial testimonies and media debate about whether it was a homicide or an accident.

The university community and citizens in social networks have expressed their indignation and solidarity with Moreno's family. The University of Los Andes He mourned the death of his student and asked for exhaustive investigation to ensure justice.
“We express our condolences to the family of Jaime Esteban Moreno and we trust that the authorities will clarify the facts quickly,” the institution reported.
