Net imports of natural gas to Spain reached 25,173 gigawatt hours (GWh) in June, which represents an increase of 3.7% compared to the same month last year, according to data from the Corporation for Strategic Reserves of Petroleum Products (Cores).
Imports made through gas pipelines decreased during the month, with a decrease of 20.8% compared to June 2024, while imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) increased, with a growth of 19.0%. In the moving year, net imports of natural gas (310,990 GWh) decreased by 2.3% year-on-year.
Natural gas imports amounted to 27,587 GWh in June, with an increase of 2.5% compared to a year ago. 68.7% was imported as LNG and the remaining 31.3% through gas pipeline.
Supplies from Central and South America (+93.6%), North America (+26.1%) and Africa (+18.9%) increased year-on-year, while those from Europe and Eurasia decreased (-57.2%). No imports from Asia Pacific or the Middle East were recorded in June.
Algeria is the main supplier of natural gas to Spain in June, with 12,038 GWh and representing 43.6% of the total, followed by the US (4,134 GWh and 15.0%) and Russia (3,268 GWh and 11.8%). In the last twelve months, imports decreased by 4.3% year-on-year, to 352,172 GWh.
MOROCCO, MAIN DESTINATION OF EXPORTS.
In June, natural gas exports stood at 2,415 GWh, decreasing by 40.0% compared to June 2024. 52.1% was exported via gas pipeline and the remaining 47.9% in the form of LNG. Morocco is the main export destination, with 858 GWh and 35.5% of the total, followed by France (354 GWh and 14.6%).
In the moving year, natural gas exports stood at 41,181 GWh, with a decrease of 17.1% year-on-year, 67.9% carried out by gas pipeline and the remaining 32.1% in the form of LNG.
