María Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas was 21 years old, had a whole life ahead of her and a genuine passion for the movement. Graduated in Physical Education and Sports Management, for her, jumping from the Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, was just one more experience on her list of outdoor activities. The young woman, originally from Jandira, arrived at the place with the emotion of someone looking for an adrenaline rush, without imagining that the organization team, responsible for her safety, would sign her death sentence with an atrocious omission.
It all happened in a matter of seconds, under a sun that did not portend horror. In the video that today circulates on social networks, the sequence is observed with a clarity that chills the blood: three employees manipulate the young woman, lift her up and propel her towards the abyss. She has the harness on, yes, but the most important thing is missing: the rope. The rope, in fact, lay inert on the asphalt of the bridge, forgotten, while María Eduarda's body fell into the void for 40 meters.
The cries of despair and the flight
The impact of the fall was instantaneous. The scene, which should have been one of celebration and applause after the jump, was transformed into heartbreaking shouting: "The rope! The rope!" cried those who were watching from above, realizing too late that security had been non-existent. The death of María Eduarda, a young woman who used to share her love of nature on social networks, was, according to investigators, an episode of criminal negligence.
What followed was chaos. According to reports from the Military Police, two of the employees in charge of the maneuver failed to help the victim; On the contrary, they fled into the nearby wooded area, trying to cover their tracks. The escape was brief, but it revealed a consciousness of guilt that will now be central in the judicial process. They were captured hours later, with the support of a police helicopter, as the investigation moved towards an inevitable outcome.

Unusual statements and arrests
The case today is in the hands of the Limeira justice system. Six people were arrested, and the three men who directly participated in the launch face charges of intentional homicide — the idea that, in committing such an omission, they must have foreseen that death was a possible consequence.
When he testified before the authorities, the situation became even more surreal. Two of the employees claimed to have suffered a “fainting” just at the moment they had to place the rope, an excuse that investigators received with deep skepticism. The third person involved, who was in charge of holding the young woman's legs, hid himself by saying that his only function was momentum, trying to disassociate himself from technical responsibility. Meanwhile, María Eduarda's fiancé, who witnessed everything from the bridge, ended up hospitalized in the emergency room, devastated by an emotional shock from which he is still trying to get out.
A business without controls
The activity, which cost just 180 reais per person, was carried out under a legal loophole that is now the subject of debate throughout Brazil. The detainees' lawyer, Rafael Gomes dos Santos, argued that bungee jumping in that area “is not prohibited,” but the reality is that the operational negligence was total. The company, which had another five days of jumps scheduled for the coming months, has disappeared: its Instagram profiles were taken down and silence took over its managers.
María Eduarda, who hours before the jump had uploaded a story to Instagram ironically wondering who “the crazy one” was who had let her jump, could not see the outcome. His social network profile, which until recently portrayed an active and bright life, was deactivated after the tragedy. Today, the Skeleton Bridge is nothing more than a grim reminder of how recklessness and lack of professionalism can destroy a future in a single instant.
