Carlos Albisu, mayor of Salto, is beginning his administration with high levels of citizen support. A recent survey by Opción Consultores reveals that 66% of Salteños approve of his performance upon completing the first 100 days of government. The study reflects a general positive perception towards the departmental administration, despite the controversial measures implemented in this period.
Citizen approval and overall balance
According to the survey, 66% of those surveyed approve of Albisu's management, while 22% remain neutral and only 6% disapprove. This balance of +60 points positions him as one of the mayors with the best image in the interior of the country.
Regarding the overall evaluation of the Municipality, 59% rate it between “very good” and “good”, while only 7% consider it “bad” or “very bad”. The rest opted for an intermediate position or did not give an opinion.
The controversy over the dismissal of officials
One of the most debated topics in Albisu's management was the decision to dismiss 291 municipal officials inherited from the previous administration. According to the mayor, this measure was necessary to “put the house in order” and reduce structural expenses that amounted to about million per month.
The Opción Consultores survey indicates that 61% of Salteños support the measure, while 25% express disagreement. Albisu defended the decision by pointing out that the savings will allow resources to be reallocated to works and services.
The cost of restructuring
The separation process involved an estimated disbursement of US0,000 in settlements. According to the administration, the budget impact will be offset by the annual savings that the workforce reduction generates.
From the union movement, the Pit-Cnt criticized the measure for considering it “a massive dismissal of workers” and demanded compliance with the collective agreements. Albisu responded that the resolutions were in accordance with the legal framework and that the objective was to improve administrative efficiency.
Public perception and departmental management
The good image of the mayor is also supported by the general perception of departmental management. Those surveyed positively valued the actions in urban cleaning, road maintenance and administrative transparency. Furthermore, the study points out that the population perceives a “greater order” in the administration of public resources.
The Opción Consultores report highlights that support is given in both urban and rural areas, although with greater intensity in the departmental capital.
Political context
Albisu assumed the Mayorship of Salto in a context of economic complexity, with the need to balance public accounts and optimize resources. His leadership within the National Party positions him as a key figure on the northern coast, with projection within the scene national politician.
The challenge now will be to sustain these levels of approval while consolidating ongoing projects, especially in infrastructure, job creation and tourism promotion.
Survey technical sheet
The survey was conducted between October 9 and 17, 2025 through telephone interviews with 499 residents over 18 years of age in the department of Salto. The margin of error is ±4.5%.
The support of 66% reflects a favorable trend towards Carlos Albisu at the beginning of his administration. However, the challenge lies in maintaining this support in the medium term, especially in the face of union tensions and social demands that arise from a new government cycle.
