Airbnb is allowing guests in the United States to book some trips without paying in advance, aiming to attract budget-conscious travelers who may be reluctant to book in advance.
Specifically, customers don't have to pay the full amount until eight days before the ad's free cancellation period ends, according to a statement from the company, reported by Bloomberg.
The feature, called "Book Now, Pay Later," is available for U.S.-based rental listings with flexible or moderate cancellation policies.
The North American business has hindered overall booking growth, which increased 7.4% in the second quarter and would have seen a double-digit increase if the region were excluded.
The platform recently reported a net profit of $796 million ( €685 million ) for the first half of 2025, down 2.8% from a year earlier, although it forecasts a positive summer, according to a statement.
Looking ahead to the summer, the company is "encouraged" by current demand trends and expects to generate revenue of between $4.02 billion and $4.1 billion (€3.459 billion and €3.527 billion) in the third quarter, representing a year-over-year increase of 8% to 10%.
However, Airbnb also expects a "tougher" year-over-year comparison toward the end of that quarter, a trend that will continue through the end of the year, which will "put pressure on growth rates."
