The Ministry of Labor and Social Economy insisted this Thursday that exposure to high temperatures in the workplace should not pose a risk to the health of workers.

"The temperature of industrial premises and warehouses will be between 14 and 25 ºC and in offices between 17 and 27 ºC," stated the Department headed by Yolanda Díaz through a message published on the social network X, collected by Europa Press.

The Ministry also reminded everyone that when an orange or red alert is issued due to adverse weather, outdoor hours may be reduced or modified.

"Four days of paid weather leave are also granted if the employee cannot attend work," the Ministry of Labor explained in another recent publication.

The unions have insisted that companies must conduct an assessment of occupational risks related to exposure to adverse weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, taking into account the characteristics of the job, personal characteristics, and known biological status of the worker. Furthermore, they must adopt preventive measures derived from the results of the risk assessment.

"In cases where the proper protection of the worker cannot be guaranteed, the performance of certain tasks is prohibited during daylight hours when adverse weather conditions occur. In these cases, no salary reduction is applicable," explained the UGT union.

For its part, the Comisiones Obreras union believes it is urgent to move to the actual implementation of laws and protocols regarding high temperatures and extreme weather conditions in the workplace, including all outdoor tasks, with clear measures that modify and adapt the organization and working hours.

In this regard, the union has called on labor authorities and the Labor and Social Security Inspectorate (ITSS) to be more forceful while demanding union participation in the design of all measures and actions.
