The first burst of cold air of the spring season, which occurs between September and November, is already expected to arrive and will be felt in the region by the end of this week. According to projections from the Metsul Meteorology Institute, the phenomenon will primarily affect southern Brazil, with a marked drop in temperatures and the possibility of frost in areas near Uruguay.

According to the Brazilian agency, the cold air mass will begin to enter the southern states on Thursday, reaching Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and Paraná. The change will bring a sharp drop in temperature, which will be most noticeable in towns near the Uruguayan border .

Lows near 0°C, or even below, are expected on Saturday in cities such as Pinheiro Machado and Pedras Altas, located in southern Brazil. The combination of cold air and wind could intensify the temperature, increasing the risk of frost in the area.

In Uruguay's border departments, such as Artigas and Rivera, very cold temperatures are expected starting Friday. In neighboring cities, such as Livramento and Artigas, nighttime temperatures will remain below 10°C, with even lower wind chills due to the constant wind.

The weather warning marks the beginning of the seasonal transition, where temperature contrasts are often common in the Southern Cone. For border residents, the arrival of this cold force requires taking precautions against possible frost , especially for agricultural production.

Metsul's updated forecast reinforces expectations of a weekend of atypical temperatures for the first days of spring, with sub-zero temperatures in parts of southern Brazil and a marked cooling in northern Uruguay.
