MADRID, 17 (EUROPA PRESS)
Pope Leo XIV called this Sunday for peace negotiations to "always prioritize the common good of all peoples." He spoke in Castel Gandolfo, Italy, after reciting the Angelus.
"Let us pray for the success of efforts to end wars and promote peace; that, in negotiations, the common good of all peoples always comes first," he said, referring to the ongoing negotiations to achieve a ceasefire and peace between Ukraine and Russia .
Specifically, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met this Friday, August 15, in Anchorage, Alaska, but did not reach any agreement on the war in Ukraine. A second meeting was scheduled, with no date yet set.
In his address, the Pope also remembered the victims of the floods in Asia. "I am close to the people of Pakistan, India, and Nepal affected by the violent floods. I pray for the victims and their families, and for all those suffering as a result of this disaster," he said.
On the other hand, he thanked all the Catholic institutions and associations that take advantage of the summer to educate and spread the Gospel through activities and initiatives that involve numerous people—children, youth, and adults.
"During this summer season, I hear about many different cultural and evangelization initiatives, often organized in vacation spots. It's beautiful to see how passion for the Gospel stimulates the creativity and commitment of groups and associations of all ages," he said.
