US President Donald Trump has stated that Chicago will be his administration's next target as part of a controversial campaign to improve the safety of cities that allegedly suffer from high crime rates.
Trump has already authorized the deployment of the National Guard in the US capital, Washington, DC, and anticipates that he will add another location to his list later. "We're going to make our cities very safe," he argued during a statement from the Oval Office, in which he alluded to Chicago without providing details about the intervention he's preparing.
"Chicago is a disaster," he asserted, also criticizing the "incompetence" of Mayor Brandon Johnson, a member of the Democratic Party. According to Trump, there are already "beautiful African-American women" urging him to intervene as soon as possible to curb gun violence.
Trump, who has also expressed his willingness to "help" in New York, has claimed in recent days that his efforts to federalize Washington's security have already begun to bear fruit, and for now, he doesn't contemplate a timeline for withdrawing National Guard troops from the streets.
