MADRID, 18 (EUROPA PRESS)

US President Donald Trump announced Monday that he plans to sign an executive order to end mail-in voting and voting machines in a further affront to the electoral system following threats of alleged fraud leveled against then-President Joe Biden over his victory in the 2020 presidential election.

"I will lead a movement to eliminate mail-in ballots and voting machines, which are extremely inaccurate, very expensive, and very controversial," the Republican magnate said in a message posted on Truth Social.

Trump has asserted that this measure will restore "honesty" and "integrity" ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, despite "opposition from the Democrats," whom he once again accused of "cheating" with this voting method, which, he asserts, "only" the United States uses.

"The deception of mail-in voting, which uses voting machines that are a complete and total disaster, must end now," he stressed, adding that many countries have eliminated this method due, according to him, to the "enormous electoral fraud detected."

Trump, who has offered no evidence to support his claims about mail-in voting, continues to insist he was a victim of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election against Biden, although all of his claims have been dismissed for lack of evidence to support this claim.

Last June, a federal court temporarily suspended part of an executive order by the magnate that substantially modified the voter registration process and the mail-in voting system. The US president required voters to provide written citizenship documentation as a prerequisite for registering in the voting system and also called for the annulment of any mail-in ballots that arrived after the polls closed.
