US President Donald Trump on Monday denounced an alleged "purge" in South Korea and warned of the potential consequences for American investments, shortly before welcoming the new South Korean head of state, Lee Jae Myung, to the White House.
"What's going on in South Korea? It looks like a purge or a revolution," Trump said in a message on the Truth Social network. He did not justify these allusions or clarify whether he was referring to the political and judicial measures following the controversial adoption of martial law in December 2024.
"We can't have something like this and do business," added the American magnate, who since his return to the White House in January has used economic retaliation such as tariffs as a tool of political pressure.
