MADRID, 21 (EUROPA PRESS)
US President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Jay Carney spoke Thursday for the first time since the breakdown in trade negotiations, which led to the August 1st implementation of tariffs of up to 35 percent on Canadian products.
The conversation was "productive" and allowed the two leaders to discuss a wide range of topics, according to Carney's office, which cited among them "current trade challenges" and "priorities" for achieving "a new economic and security relationship" between the two neighboring countries.
Carney and Trump also discussed the latest negotiations to ensure "long-term" peace in Ukraine and across Europe, according to a brief statement in which the Canadian government simply stated that the two leaders had agreed to speak again "soon," without providing further details.
The call also coincided with a face-to-face meeting in Washington between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand.
