Uruguay will lead the growth of software exports in Latin America in 2025.

In 2025, Uruguay positioned itself as the country with the highest percentage growth in software and information technology services exports in Latin America, according to consolidated data from Uruguay XXI , the Central Bank of Uruguay, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

In the first half of the year, the sector's exports reached USD 1.24 billion , representing an increase of 18.7% compared to the same period in 2024. This growth exceeds that of countries with larger technology industries such as Brazil (+7.4%) and Mexico (+5.9%).

"Uruguay has managed to combine talent, stability, and a favorable regulatory framework for the export of digital services," notes the latest Uruguay XXI report.

Key growth factors

  • Bilingual and specialized talent : more than 25,000 active IT professionals.
  • Tax incentives : exemptions for service exports.
  • Digital infrastructure : high-speed connectivity and world-class data centers.
  • Market diversification : increased sales to Europe and Asia, in addition to the US.

Regional comparison 2025 (growth % IT exports)

Country Growth % 2025 vs 2024 Fountain

Mexico 5,9% UNCTAD
Chili 4,8% UNCTAD
Argentina 3,2% UNCTAD

Economic impact

The technology sector now represents 4.3% of Uruguay's GDP and is consolidating its position as the second largest service export, behind only tourism.

Uruguay's leadership in software exports in 2025 demonstrates that innovation and talent can transform the economy of a small country into a global leader. This achievement is no coincidence: it is the result of investment in education, stability, and strategic vision. Consolidating this path requires continued commitment to training, market expansion, and technology as a driver of sustainable development.
