The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced this Friday the appointment of Judge Margaret "Meg" Ryan as the new director of the agency's Enforcement Department.
According to the press release, after Ryan takes office on September 2, the current interim chief, Sam Waldon, will resume his duties as senior counsel for the Enforcement division.
"I am delighted to welcome Judge Ryan to the SEC. She brings to the Commission decades of experience as a respected judge and legal practitioner," said SEC Chairman Paul Atkins.
"I look forward to joining the SEC in its important work to […] act in defense of investors harmed by those who violate the securities laws and to provide an effective deterrent against fraudulent activities and manipulation of the financial markets," Judge Ryan said.
