Retail sales in the United States rose 0.5% in July compared to the previous month, while consumption increased by a revised 0.9%, marking two consecutive months of increases.
A total of four of the 13 categories analyzed recorded sales declines in the seventh month of the year, with the largest decreases in groceries (-1.7%), construction materials (-1%), and household appliances (-0.6%).
On the other hand, retail sales of motor vehicles and furniture rose by 1.6% and 1.4%, respectively. Sales of sporting goods, music, and books, as well as items sold outside stores, increased by 0.8%.
The Commerce Department provides these retail trade value data adjusted for seasonal variations and differences between holidays and business days, but not for price changes.
