Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that he proposed this Monday to his US counterpart, Donald Trump, the purchase of $90 billion (just over €77.2 billion) in weapons from the United States through financing from European allies, in exchange for security guarantees from Washington.

He made this statement at a press conference, stressing that the proposal is still under discussion and that no agreement has yet been reached, although one could be formalized within the next week or ten days, according to the American television network CNN.

kyiv's proposal also includes the production of drones, for which it also hopes to reach an agreement with Washington.

For his part, President Trump explained that security guarantees for Ukraine are still being negotiated with NATO allies, but that Washington will "be involved" in the process. "We're going to discuss it today, but we will provide them with very good protection and security," he argued.

Last month, Trump announced the shipment of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, assuring that the European Union would pay for them through NATO, which has assumed responsibility for coordinating arms supplies to kyiv.
