The Ukrainian Armed Forces have confirmed their involvement in an attack that disrupted Russian oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline, a move the Hungarian government had publicly complained about hours earlier.
The Ukrainian General Staff reported in a statement that an attack was carried out on an oil pumping station in the Russian region of Tambov, specifically in the town of Nikolskoye. The bombing caused a fire at the facility.
kyiv maintains that these facilities are part of Moscow's "economic infrastructure" and facilitate supplies to troops deployed on Ukrainian territory, and therefore considers them a legitimate target.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, on the other hand, has called what he considers an attack on his own energy security "unacceptable." In his opinion, both kyiv and Brussels have been "trying to drag Hungary into the war in Ukraine" for more than three years, a goal he considers such incidents to be within his purview.
"Let me be clear: this is not our war. We have nothing to do with it, and as long as we're in charge, Hungary will be out of it," he declared, echoing the position championed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, one of the few European leaders who has not severed ties with Russia despite the invasion of Ukraine .
