MADRID, 18 (EUROPA PRESS)
US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, on Monday endorsed holding a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to try to reach a peace agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
"I think if all goes well today, we'll have a trilateral meeting, and I think there's a reasonable chance we'll end the war when we do," the Republican tycoon said to Zelensky, dressed in a suit, from the Oval Office.
In this regard, Trump has urged working with both kyiv and Moscow to reach an agreement that will end the fighting on the Ukrainian front. "We're going to have a lasting peace. I hope it's immediate. I hope they don't have to continue (the attacks)," the US president argued.
For his part, Zelensky said that Ukraine "is ready" to hold a trilateral meeting. "I think we have shown that we are strong people and we support the idea of the United States, and President Trump personally, to stop this war," he emphasized in statements to the press.
