A police chase early Saturday morning ended with the deaths of two men in the city of La Plata, reported Titular24. It all began when officers from the Tactical Unit for Immediate Operations (UTOI) spotted two motorcycles traveling at high speed at the corner of 143rd and 66th Streets. Upon noticing the patrol car, the drivers attempted to escape, leading to a chase down 143rd Street.

Upon reaching the intersection with 60th Avenue, the motorcycle driven by Gabriel Nicolás Franco, 29, lost control and crashed into the broken curb. Franco and his passenger, Charly Enrique Maidana, 35, were thrown from the impact and were left lying on the asphalt with visible injuries.

SAME personnel arrived at the scene and transported both men to San Martín Hospital. Maidana died hours later, while Franco underwent surgery but died on Sunday.

Municipal security cameras recorded the footage, and the prosecutor's office is currently analyzing the images. The investigation was initially handled by the 10th Criminal Investigation Unit for Involuntary Crimes (UFI) and then transferred to Prosecutor Virginia Bravo (UFI 7), who requested the intervention of the AGAI (General Directorate of Investigation), the agency responsible for overseeing police procedures.

According to judicial sources, no action was taken against the officers involved in the operation. The black Honda Titan motorcycle was seized as part of the investigation, which is being charged with negligent homicide, negligent injuries, and resisting arrest.

Regarding his background, it was confirmed that Franco was released in November 2023, after serving a sentence in Penitentiary Unit No. 1 in Olmos. He had several cases of threats and injuries. In contrast, Maidana had no criminal record.

The case remains open while the prosecutor's office evaluates whether there were excesses or additional responsibility in the pursuit that ended in tragedy.
