The Justice Department is investigating a tourism official in Rivera for alleged possession of illegal images.
A 63-year-old man was arrested in Rivera as part of an investigation into alleged crimes related to the possession of child sexual material. The suspect worked in the Tourism Department of the Municipality, working at the visitor service center at the International Park. He has no criminal record.
The investigation began after a complaint was filed by his own superiors, who reportedly noticed the presence of suspicious files on his cell phone and computer during work hours. According to sources close to the case, the devices showed signs of storing explicit material related to minors.
Initial technical investigations confirmed the existence of images and files consistent with child pornography. Based on these findings, the Prosecutor's Office requested his arrest, which was carried out on Wednesday night.
The man remains in custody and is being held by the courts while further forensic investigations are conducted. He is scheduled to testify this Thursday, at a hearing where it will be decided whether the investigation will be formalized by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The analysis of the electronic devices continues, being conducted by specialized technicians, with the goal of establishing the origin of the material, its possible circulation, and whether other individuals are involved. No additional complaints have been reported so far.
