At least three people have died in Pinga, in the North Kivu region of the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, during clashes between the Nduma Congo Defence Force (NDC-R) and the Union of Patriotic Resistance (UPR).
The clashes began last Wednesday near Nkobe, when NDC-R troops launched an attack that left three people dead and six others injured.
Some of the injured were taken to the Munsanga clinic, while others were taken to Pinga, where they received medical attention, according to the Congolese news site Actualité.
The administrative secretary of the Kisimba region, Lavie Changwi, has warned that this conflict between rival militias could benefit the M-23 insurgent group, which could attempt to penetrate the area. He has therefore called for military intervention to restore calm between the two parties, members of the pro-government coalition.
