Daniel Diverio asserted that neither he nor the Communist Party nor Sunca are involved in the fraud being investigated by the Justice Department at the Social Housing Fund.
Communist Party representative Daniel Diverio strongly rejected any connection to the fraud carried out at the Social Housing Fund, for which three former union leaders have already been charged and convicted.
He also denied that the construction union (Sunca) or his political wing had anything to do with it.
According to the legislator, his name and that of Senator Óscar Andrade were mentioned by the convicted men themselves, who stated that both were aware of the embezzlement. However, Diverio remained firm in his statement: "There is no evidence demonstrating any connection to this scam, either with the Communist Party or with Sunca. To this day, the court has not summoned or subpoenaed us."
When asked why he believes he was mentioned, Diverio suggested that "it appears to have been a strategy by the defendants to obtain a shortened trial and lessen their responsibility."
The congressman also emphasized that it was the union itself, along with construction companies, who reported the irregularities in the Social Housing Fund to the courts, thus initiating the judicial investigation.
"It's a very painful and sad situation," summed up the former union leader, visibly affected by the public impact of his name.
Hours before his statement, the Communist Party issued an official statement rejecting any institutional connection with the events under investigation in this case.
