The Rocky Mountain peaks surrounding the Jackson Hole Valley (Wyoming) will once again feature the usual presence of the main central banks, led by the president of the United States Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, who acts as host of the annual conclave that has been held during the last weekend of August since 1982 in this mountain resort and which in this edition focuses its interest on the figure of the American central banker under pressure from Donald Trump.

Thus, although the leitmotif chosen for the 48th Jackson Hole Symposium, taking place from August 21 to 23, is "Labor Markets in Transition: Demographics, Productivity, and Macroeconomic Policy," markets will be on the lookout for any clues regarding the upcoming decisions of the Federal Reserve, which will hold its first monetary policy meeting on September 17.

Of particular interest in this regard is Jerome Powell's speech scheduled for this Friday, when the US central banker is expected to offer some insight into the evolution of interest rates in the US following the latest employment and inflation data, with a somewhat clearer outlook on tariffs and amid constant personal attacks from US President Donald Trump.

Another highlight of this year's edition will be Christine Lagarde's intervention on Saturday, absent last year, in her first public appearance since the press conference following the European Central Bank's last monetary policy meeting, which on July 24 kept interest rates unchanged and will meet again on September 11.

Thus, central bankers from the two main Western economic blocs will meet again for the first time since Lagarde took the opportunity to publicly defend Powell's work at the helm of the Fed in early July, hosted by the ECB in Sintra.

Since 1978, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City has sponsored a symposium to address issues facing the United States and international economies. Since 1982, the meeting has been held at Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.
