The Ibex 35 index of the Madrid Stock Exchange opened Friday's session with a 0.68% gain, pushing the Madrid index to 15,310.9 points on a festive day in Spain and parts of the Old Continent, when investors will be focused on the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
BBVA and Sabadell were the biggest gainers at the opening of the Ibex 35, with increases of 1.87% and 1.11%, respectively, which drove the rest of the banking stocks in the index higher.
Thus, Santander shares rose 1% and CaixaBank 0.70%, while Bankinter rose 0.09% and Unicaja 0.91%.
Other stocks in the index with notable gains at the opening included ArcelorMittal, up 0.90%, Colonial, up 0.78%, and Ferrovial, up 0.73%.
At the other end of the spectrum, the only declines at the start of the session in Plaza de la Lealtad were Redeia, down 0.18%, Indra, down 0.12%, and Endesa, down 0.11%.
The rest of Europe's major stock markets also opened Friday's session with gains. Specifically, the Frankfurt DAX gained 0.79%; the Paris CAC 40 gained 0.84%; the London FTSE 100 gained 0.13%; and the Milan FTSEMIB gained 1.11%.
