MADRID, 19 (EUROPA PRESS)
The Ibex 35 opened Tuesday's session with a 0.14% gain, reaching 15,272 points, in a session marked by the results of yesterday's meeting between the President of the United States, Donald Trump, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and European leaders to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The meeting, which took place in Washington, resulted in the parties' intention to hold a bilateral meeting first (between Russia and Ukraine) and then a trilateral meeting (including the United States) to try to reach a peace agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his part, held a telephone conversation with Trump in which they discussed the possibility of increasing the level of representation between Moscow and kyiv at the upcoming meeting between the two neighboring countries.
Zelensky also confirmed that he has proposed to his US counterpart the purchase of $90 billion (just over €77.2 billion ) worth of weapons from the US through financing from European allies, in exchange for security guarantees from Washington.
Aside from the results of this meeting, investors will also be keeping an eye on Home Depot's earnings and US building permits data on Tuesday. Walmart's earnings and the minutes of the latest Federal Reserve meeting will be released tomorrow, all ahead of the week's main event: the central bankers' summit in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which begins on Thursday.
Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, whom Trump wants to oust, will host this annual gathering, which has been held since 1982 at this mountain resort and will be attended by European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde.
Analysts expect the Fed to ease its monetary policy starting in September, so investors will be closely monitoring Powell's messages during this summit.
In Europe, preliminary PMIs for August will be released this week in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the eurozone, which will provide an assessment of the state of manufacturing and services activity in a context of slowdown. In addition, the final CPI data for the eurozone and the UK CPI for July will be released.
