Yemen's Houthi rebels announced Sunday afternoon that they had launched a missile at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel, hours after the Israeli army carried out an attack on a power plant located outside the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, used by the extremist group.
Houthi insurgency military spokesman Yahya Sari reported on his Telegram channel of a "high-quality military operation against Lod Airport – the name they use for Ben Gurion Airport – in the occupied Yaffa region, using a hypersonic ballistic missile, the Palestine 2."
As usual, he celebrated that the operation "achieved its objective and caused millions of groups of usurping Zionists to flee to safe havens, thus suspending airport operations.
Hours earlier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on the same platform that its air force "intercepted a missile launch from Yemen toward Israeli territory" after triggering alarms in various parts of the country.
The Israeli army attacked the Haiz power plant in the Sanhan district on Sunday morning, causing a fire that was later extinguished by emergency services and shutting down its generators, according to reports collected by the Yemeni television network Al Masirah, which is linked to the Houthis.
The rebels, who have controlled Sanaa and other areas in northern and western Yemen since 2014, resumed their attacks on Israel after Israeli authorities broke the ceasefire agreed in January with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in March and relaunched their offensive against Gaza, unleashed after the attacks of October 7, 2023.
