La Concordia Bridge explosion: Kevin's audio recording that shook Mexico

Mexico City experienced one of its most tragic days on September 12th, when a gas pipeline explosion on the La Concordia Bridge in Iztapalapa caused a massive fire that left at least nine dead and more than 90 injured. Among them was 19-year-old Kevin Díaz, whose story went viral after the voice message he sent to his mother minutes after the incident spread.

The moment of tragedy

According to Telediario reports, Kevin was near Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza when the tanker exploded. The flames engulfed vehicles, businesses, and pedestrians in the area. Amid the chaos, the young man managed to send a WhatsApp message to his mother, María Coral Montes de Oca, informing her that he was injured.

The message that moved the country

"Mom, help me... something exploded... I'm all burned... I love you so much, family," Kevin can be heard saying in a broken voice. The audio, shared on social media, generated a wave of messages of support and solidarity.

Kevin's health status

Kevin was initially treated at the Emiliano Zapata Hospital in Iztapalapa and later transferred to the PEMEX Central South Hospital in Tlalpan. According to the latest medical report Mexico City Health Secretariat

Prosecutor's Hypothesis

The head of the Attorney General's Office , Bertha María Alcalde Luján, reported that one of the main lines of investigation points to the truck being traveled at excessive speed, which may have caused it to overturn and subsequently explode.

A devastating balance

The fire left nine people dead and 55 hospitalized, most of them with serious burns. Witnesses described scenes of panic, with people trying to flee as the fire consumed vehicles and a passenger truck.
