MADRID, 18 (EUROPA PRESS)

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz moved closer to number one in the ATP rankings on Monday after cutting 1,100 points off Italian Jannik Sinner following his move to the final of the Cincinnati tournament. He will regain the number one spot if he wins the US Open. Alejandro Davidovich from Malaga remains in the world's Top 20 for another week despite withdrawing in the first round of Cincinnati.

Carlos Alcaraz has taken advantage of his return at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 tournament to close the gap on the ATP world number one. The Murcia native, who plays in the final against Italian Jannik Sinner this Monday, has moved within 2,000 points, and could move even closer if he wins the tournament. These numbers will allow Alcaraz to reach world number one if he wins the US Open.

Malaga-born Alejandro Davidovich will remain in 18th place despite retiring in the first round of the Cincinnati tournament against Brazilian Joao Fonseca. The Spanish player thus secures a spot in the final Grand Slam of the season, the US Open. Meanwhile, Jaume Munar (46) achieved his highest ranking, and Roberto Bautista (47) remain in the Top 50.

In addition, Pedro Martínez (64), Roberto Carballés (84) and Carlos Taberner (100) complete the list of Spanish tennis players who will arrive at the US Open among the 100 best tennis players in the world.
