Syrian authorities reported Sunday that more than 380 women and children have been evacuated from the southwestern governorate of Suwayda through the Busra al-Sham humanitarian crossing following fighting between government forces and local factions.

"Syrian Civil Defense teams provided them with assistance and ensured their safe passage to their destinations," the Syrian Civil Defense, known as the "White Helmets," said in a message posted on social media, indicating that a total of 97 families have been evacuated.

Another 57 families, including 227 citizens, have returned to Sueida through the crossing. Civil Defense teams have also transported an elderly man suffering from cancer from Jaramana to the governorate with the assistance of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

In mid-July, the Syrian transitional government announced a ceasefire in the Suwayda governorate and the deployment of its security forces to preserve the cessation of hostilities following weeks of fighting between Bedouin loyal to the Damascus authorities and militias from the Druze minority.
