Spain does not exceed the number of hotels open before the pandemic during the month of July, with 148 fewer establishments.

Spain had 16,968 hotels open in July of this year, which is 63 more than the same month in 2024, but 148 fewer establishments compared to 2019, the year before the Covid-19 pandemic, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), consulted by Europa Press.

Thus, four-star hotels continue to be the category with the most open buildings, with 3,092 in the seventh month, representing 18.2% of the total, up from 17.8% in 2024 and 15.8% in 2019.

Furthermore, with 417 five-star establishments, this category represents 2.4% of the total number of buildings open in July. In 2024, this type of hotel accounted for the same figure , while in 2019 it was 1.9%.

In terms of room count, the 906,188 stays in the period analyzed were 0.4% more than the 902,710 in 2024, while also exceeding the pre-pandemic figure by 2.5%, when 883,826 rooms were reached.

Regarding the number of employees in the hotel sector, July reached 324,217 workers in Spain , which was 4% and 14% higher than the same months in 2024 and 2019, respectively.

Hotels had 5% more revenue in July

The Spanish hotel sector continued to consolidate its recovery in July, with hotel establishments recording a 1.8% year-over-year increase in overnight stays and a 5% rise in prices compared to the same month in 2024.

Specifically, Spanish hotels billed an average of €146.50 in the seventh month, representing a 4.6% increase compared to the same month in 2024.
