The Mexican Attorney General's Office has reported the discovery of six human heads on a highway connecting the municipalities of Ixtacuixtla and Nanacamilpa, in the central state of Tlaxcala.
The discovery, unprecedented in the area, has raised alarm bells, although it occurred shortly after the remains of another skull were found in the city of Colima, located further west.
These six heads—which belong to six men—had been placed on the road next to a message attributed to the criminal group 'La Barredora' and which allegedly corresponded to a "settling of scores," according to prosecutors told the Mexican newspaper 'Reforma'.
Although such acts of violence are not common in the areas of Puebla and Tlaxcala, in recent months there has been an increase in the discovery of human remains in areas bordering these two regions.
