MADRID, 17 (EUROPA PRESS)
The Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) announced that on August 21st it will honor Sergio Llull, who announced his retirement from the national team last May, during the friendly match between Spain and Germany at the Movistar Arena in Madrid.
Before the match at Real Madrid's home, where Llull will celebrate his 20th season with Real Madrid after renewing his contract this summer, the Balearic point guard will receive a moving tribute from the FEB for his career with the national team. Llull ended his international career after 173 matches and seven medals with Spain.
"The Mahón native has always displayed an extraordinary winning spirit and an energy on the court that permeated the entire team. Added to this is his leadership off the court, being one of the greatest exponents of the values that define La Familia," the FEB stated in an official statement.
Llull won four gold medals with Spain, following the titles at the 2019 World Cup in China and the Eurobasket in 2015 (France, Germany, Croatia, and Latvia), 2011 (Lithuania), and 2009 (Poland). The Mahón native participated in four Olympic Games: London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024, winning silver in the London capital and bronze in the Brazilian city.
A continental bronze medal in 2013 (Slovenia) completes his international career and includes a career that includes scoring 1,166 points, grabbing 228 rebounds, and dishing out 387 assists. The match against Germany will be the penultimate warm-up for the Eurobasket, before another match on the 23rd against the Germans in Cologne.
