Police operation in Río Negro: Search for Andrés Morosini and his children
The operation to locate Andrés Morosini, the 28-year-old man who forcibly removed his 6- and 2-year-old children from his ex-partner's home in Mercedes, Soriano, ended without results in Río Negro. The operation focused this Thursday on the Don Esteban stream, a location at kilometer 58 of Route 20, near the city of Young.
Search and challenges in the Don Esteban stream
"We are conducting a search of the area to confirm or rule out the police's evidence," stated Guillermo Pais, the prefect of the Port of Fray Bentos. He explained that Andrés Morosini used an inflatable boat and a team of Navy divers from Montevideo to search for the area, combing approximately 100 meters of the creek. The underwater operation was difficult due to the strong current and the dangers hidden in the water. The search will resume this Friday at 7:00 a.m.
Technology and testimonies in research
Police also used a geothermal drone to scan the area from the air. This technology allowed them to detect hot spots, which helped rule out areas and focus the work on specific quadrants. Ruben Olivera, a resident and farmer in the area, collaborated with his tractor and confirmed that the stream, while not very deep, has a strong current. Investigators are also investigating a vehicle track leading into the water, similar to that of the BYD F0 in which Morosini escaped with her two children.
