"Al Waleed bin Khalid was laid to rest this Sunday in the Saudi capital, after 20 years in a coma."

He was 36 years old and his condition was the result of an accident that occurred in London in 2005, when he was just 15.

The news was confirmed by his father, Prince Khalid bin Talal Al Saud, through his official X network account (formerly Twitter):

“With a heart that believes in God’s will and destiny, and with profound sadness, we mourn the passing of our beloved son.”

The funeral was held this Sunday at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Grand Mosque in Riyadh, according to the official Saudi news agency SPA.

Dubbed by many as "the sleeping prince," Al Waleed remained on life support for twenty years. During that time, his family released several videos showing him making slight movements, such as opening his eyes or moving his fingers, but without regaining full consciousness.

The accident that marked his life occurred in the British capital, where he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and an internal hemorrhage as a result of the severe impact. Since then, he has been treated at a medical center in Saudi Arabia under constant surveillance.

Her story moved both inside and outside the kingdom. Her father, steadfast in his convictions, refused to withdraw life support for all these years, sparking a debate about medicine, faith, and human dignity.
