Arsenal beat Manchester United (0-1) to get off to a good start in the 2025/26 Premier League season, with a discreet version saved by the Spaniard David Raya between the sticks, while Chelsea started with a draw (0-0) against Crystal Palace.
The goalkeeper was the difference this Sunday at Old Trafford, where Raya was immense in preventing the hosts from scoring, and Altay Bayindir made a serious error in Riccardo Calafiori's 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. Arsenal defended successfully, as they didn't concede, but above all, they had a poor second half.
Mikel Arteta's men took all three points from Manchester to start on the same pace as Liverpool and Manchester City, while United, with their new artillery Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, were unable to break down Raya's wall.
On Sunday's other hand, the London derby also ended in a goalless draw between Chelsea, the newly crowned world champions this summer, and Palace. Enzo Maresca's team also relied on reinforcements, with Estevao Willian, Liam Delap, and Andrey Santos, but they couldn't find the net against the recent Community Shield winners.
Palace even took the lead through Eberechi Eze, who appears to have packed his bags for Tottenham, but his direct free-kick in the first 15 minutes was ruled out due to an illegal blockade by his teammates. Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens also made their debuts for Chelsea after another busy summer at the Bridge.
