The PIT-CNT returns to the streets: partial strike and central mobilization in Cerro

The murmur of the union assemblies moves to the asphalt this Wednesday. The PIT-CNT confirmed a new partial stoppage of activities, a measure that seeks to group the discontent of various sectors under the same scenario: Cerro de Montevideo. The western zone, historically linked to the workers' struggle, will be the epicenter of a mobilization that aims to set the pulse of the social agenda this week.

The decision, which is already circulating in the WhatsApp groups of grassroots delegates, is not just a cessation of tasks. It is a demonstration of strength at a time when the relationship between the labor union and the Executive is going through a period of coldness and averted glances.

The Hill as a scene of struggle

Choosing the Hill is not a coincidence. Union leaders know that the area carries a particular symbolism for the Uruguayan labor movement. The concentration, which promises to bring together delegations from various parts of the capital, has the ultimate goal of putting pressure on points that they consider "non-negotiable" in the current situation.

For the ordinary worker, the strike implies logistical complications: adjustments in transportation schedules, union guards in essential services and the usual uncertainty generated by these movements. Meanwhile, at the union headquarters, the atmosphere is one of preparations: flags, megaphones and the necessary logistics so that the march, which will reach the busiest points of the neighborhood, has the visibility that its organizers seek.

The reasons behind the measure

Although the specific points of the protest platform are usually extensive, the central axis of this day revolves around concern about employment levels and the cost of living. "We are at a stage where the solutions proposed by the Government are not enough," they point out from the union leadership, preparing the ground for what will be a day of fiery speeches and, possibly, new warnings of more severe measures if there are no clear signals from the Ministry of Labor.

Wednesday will be the thermometer. The number of people that the PIT-CNT manages to convene on the Hill will, ultimately, be the real message that the political system receives. While the Government maintains its line, unionism once again relies on the old formula: street, speech and pressure.
