Oscar Andrade questioned the appointment of Carolina Ache as ambassador to Portugal, adding his dismay to the political debate generated by the recent appointments.

Broad Front Senator Oscar Andrade added his voice to the debate surrounding the recent diplomatic appointments announced by Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin. In particular, he expressed his dismay at the appointment of Carolina Ache as Uruguay's ambassador to Portugal.

"I don't understand Carolina's situation," Andrade said when asked about the issue. He also expressed surprise at certain political reactions: "I'm surprised they're attacking the opposition," he added, alluding to the questions raised by various sectors.

The legislator's comments are part of a series of repercussions generated by the official announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In that statement, in addition to Ache's appointment, the appointment of former Vice President Beatriz Argimón as ambassador to UNESCO, based in Paris, was also confirmed.

These diplomatic moves, driven by the government, have opened a new front of political discussion, where both the ruling party and the opposition exchange critical views and conflicting positions on the criteria used to determine positions in the foreign service.

For now, the new appointments continue to generate repercussions both within and outside the parliamentary sphere.
