MADRID, 20 (EUROPA PRESS)

Spanish footballer Abel Bretones, left-back for CA Osasuna, was sanctioned this Wednesday by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) with a two-match suspension due to his red card during the match against Real Madrid corresponding to Matchday 1 of LaLiga EA Sports.

In the 90th minute of a match that ended in a 1-0 victory for Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Abel Bretones committed a foul on Gonzalo García near the touchline in an action that referee Adrián Cordero Vega deemed an elbow.

Following an agreement from the RFEF's Disciplinary Committee, Bretones received this sanction because he had made his gesture "in a violent manner outside the game" and without being "able to contest the ball," according to Article 130.2 of the Disciplinary Code, also incurring "accessory fines" in application of Article 52 of that same code.

The RFEF thus dismissed the Osasuna club's claims, which pointed out in its appeal "an error in the referee's assessment of the facts, assuming that an unlawful act had occurred, but which should have merited a mere warning instead of the expulsion ordered by the referee."
