The Uruguayan Meteorological Institute (Inumet) issued an orange this Wednesday, September 3, for strong storms primarily affecting the north of the country. The warning went into effect at 6:30 a.m. and was updated at 9:30 a.m., maintaining a probability greater than 75%.
According to the agency, a stationary front accompanied by a humid and unstable air mass is causing storms, some of which could reach significant intensity. Intense electrical activity , heavy rainfall in short periods, very strong wind gusts , and possible hail in the affected areas.
The towns under an orange warning in the department of Artigas include: Baltasar Brum, Bella Unión, Bernabé Rivera, Cainsa, Colonia Palma, Coronado, Diego Lamas, Franquia, Javier de Viana, Mones Quintela, Paso Campamento, Iron Gates and Campodónico, Santa Rosa del Cuareim, Sequeira, Tomás Gomensoro and Topador.
In Salto , the areas reached are: Albisu, Arapey, Belén, Biassini, Cayetano, Colonia 18 de Julio, Colonia Itapebí, Constitución, Garibaldi, Itapebí, Lluveras, Migliaro, Rincón de Valentín, Salto city, San Antonio, Saucedo and Termas del Arapey .
